A culturo-historic exploration of the interplay between science, religion, philosophy and the paranormal in the Victorian period. This talk investigates the early psychical researchers and their theories on the paranormal. It posits a new typology which describes how the paranormal was thought of at the time and suggests that this is still relevant today.

This talk presents research on numerous ghostly stories from Barnet and Enfield. Tales of medieval knights, the Wars of the Roses, witches, growling ghouls, phantom carriages and ancient forests form the backdrop to this varied presentation.

Gothic literature of the nineteenth century was intimately intertwined with the paranormal. Its authors were influenced by a combination of real life ghost stories, paranormal research and the radical changes in mainstream thinking around science, politics and gender. This talk presents some of these themes by discussing a few of the key individuals and their works of Gothic fiction.

This talk considers the crossover between the observation and experience of different types of paranormal phenomena - from UFOs, ghosts, cryptids, and many more. It considers whether some of the links can be explained by the possibility of travel between different realms and dimensions using portals.

A consideration of the philosophical and intellectual movement which promotes the technological advancement of humanity to immensely enhance both longevity and cognition known as Transhumanism. The talk focuses on human consciousness, mortality, and the possibilities of Artificial Intelligence.
